Why Hold Auditions?

Auditions are held so that the director has a chance to get to know the student. JMTC is a lot of fun, but it is also a lot of work. It is really important that the student is prepared to put in the time that is needed. It is also a perfect time to ask  any questions that you may have about the program.

What Should I Expect in the Audition?

When auditioning please wear comfortable clothes that you can move in. If you have a resume and photo, please bring a copy for the director to keep. Remember to relax and have fun!

The audition is broken into four parts:

  1. A Mini-Interview. This gives the director a chance to get to know the potential student and it gives the student an opportunity to ask any questions that they may have about the program.
  2. Sing Your Song. Please prepare a memorized song to be sung either a cappella (without music) or with a recorded background track on CD. There will be no accompanist, a CD player will be provided.
  3. Recite Your Monologue. Please prepare a 1 to 2 minute monologue or acting piece to be performed from memory.
  4. A Small Dance Combo. This will be taught in the audition.
